Jo Bartlett & Neil Haydock Premiere ‘Let It Happen’ From Debut Album ‘North Sixteen’
Jo Bartlett and Neil Haydock will release their debut album together, ‘North Sixteen,’ on August 28 via Indie Through The Looking Glass. Ahead of it, they are sharing the new single ‘Let It Happen,’ due August 14, which we’re premiering today.
The album brings together songs Bartlett originally began writing in London in the late 1990s with a new collaboration between the two musicians. At the time, she was living in Stoke Newington, playing regularly and working on material that would eventually lead into her recordings as It’s Jo & Danny. Haydock, meanwhile, had spent the previous years fronting Submarine, whose self-titled debut appeared in 1994 following two John Peel sessions.
Bartlett and Haydock began working together on the material in early 2026, sending recordings back and forth and gradually reshaping the songs. ‘North Sixteen’ takes its title from the Stoke Newington postcode and reflects the period in which much of the material first took shape, though the finished album was recorded and developed nearly three decades later.
‘Let It Happen’ is built around a loose, melodic arrangement of guitars, percussion and understated synths, with Bartlett and Haydock keeping the production warm and uncluttered. The accompanying footage was filmed in Italy by Juliet Aubrey. The single follows their 2025 EP ‘The River or the Road,’ which marked their first release as a duo.
Bartlett’s long recording history includes Go! Service, It’s Jo & Danny and The Yellow Moon Band, as well as her 2024 solo album ‘Ghost Tapes 1 to 9.’ Haydock’s Submarine toured with the likes of The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Moose and Tool and later had their singles and B-sides collected on ‘Kiss Me Till Your Ears Burn Off.’
‘North Sixteen’ contains ten tracks and will be available digitally on August 28, with a limited CD edition through Bandcamp.
