Vinyl of the Day is a long-running It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine feature devoted to records that deserve to be seen as well as heard.
The series began in 2014, growing out of our enthusiasm for the physical record itself: the music, artwork, packaging and the experience of putting an album on the turntable. More than a decade later, that fascination has not changed.
We feature both new releases and archival reissues, from established labels to small independent and private-press projects. Psychedelia is naturally well represented, but the selection reaches across progressive and experimental music, folk, garage, jazz, electronic music, heavy rock, avant-garde sounds and the wider underground.
A Vinyl of the Day selection is presented prominently across It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine and our social media channels, bringing attention to the record, the artist and the label behind it. Whenever relevant, we also connect the selection with interviews, reviews and other material from our archive, giving readers a way to explore the story behind the music in greater depth.
For us, the format has never been simply about collecting objects. Records carry their own history. A beautifully produced reissue can return forgotten music to circulation; a new independent pressing can document a scene as it is happening; and sometimes an LP arriving in the post opens the door to an interview, an archival discovery or a much larger story.
That is what Vinyl of the Day is intended to celebrate.
