Before the magazine developed into the large online archive it is today, It’s Psychedelic Baby! also appeared in print.
Three limited physical editions were published between 2014 and 2016, produced in collaboration with Merlin’s Nose Records and Guerssen Records. Each edition was built around long-form interviews and archival material, with much of the content prepared specifically for print.
All three editions are now sold out. This page is retained as an archive of that part of the magazine’s history.
It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine — Issue #1
Published in 2014 in collaboration with Merlin’s Nose Records
The first physical edition of It’s Psychedelic Baby! was a 130-page, full-colour magazine accompanied by a 16-track compilation CD.
Texas psychedelia formed an important part of the issue, with material on The 13th Floor Elevators, The Moving Sidewalks, Zakary Thaks, Lemon Fog, Golden Dawn, Homer, Corpus and other figures from the Texas underground.
Its scope extended much further, however, with features and interviews concerning WITCH and the 1970s Zambian rock scene, Kaleidoscope from Mexico, Bodo Molitor, Anonymous, Vyto, contemporary releases and other areas of underground music.
The cover and artwork were created by Justin Jackley.
The edition also included a specially compiled Space Rock / Neo-Psychedelia CD.

Vernon Joynson on Issue #1
Author and music historian Vernon Joynson, known for reference works including The Tapestry of Delights, wrote about the first print edition:
“His curiosity led him to research deeper and deeper into the whole sixties music scene… the blog evolved into the fabulous online magazine that is now It’s Psychedelic Baby!”
Joynson particularly highlighted the magazine’s original research, its work locating musicians who had disappeared from view, and its attention to obscure and under-documented music.

Published in 2016 in collaboration with Guerssen Records
The first half of a two-volume special edition devoted to psychedelic and underground folk.
Issue #2/1 concentrated on the United States, particularly privately pressed and so-called “loner” folk recordings.
It featured extensive interviews with artists including:

The edition also contained reviews of contemporary releases, with much of its interview material prepared specifically for the printed magazine rather than reproduced from the website.

It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine — Issue #2/2
Published in 2016 in collaboration with Guerssen Records
The companion volume turned to the British psychedelic, pastoral and underground folk scene of the 1960s and 1970s.

From print to archive
The three physical editions were an early extension of the work already taking place through It’s Psychedelic Baby!: long-form interviews, original research and an interest in records and musicians whose histories had often received little attention elsewhere.
That same approach later expanded into liner notes, archival research and record reissue projects, while the online magazine continued to grow.
The print editions remain sold out and there are currently no copies available directly from It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine.
