‘The Signal In The Signal’ by Hypnodrone Ensemble | Album Premiere
Exclusive album premiere of ‘The Signal In The Signal’ by Hypnodrone Ensemble, out March 24th via Trepanation Recordings.
‘The Signal In The Signal’ began with a minimalist bass and drum pattern recorded live by Angela Muñoz and Aidan Baker, to which Kristin Sebastian, channelling Tony Conrad’s ‘Outside the Dream Syndicate,’ added viola parts. The other players—Eric Quach (guitar), Jérémie Mortier (drums), and Tobias Humble (drums)—added their parts in separate sessions, either working individually in their own studios or together in small formations, building up the album into a long-form piece of hypnotic space-rock.
This was a slow process and the album was worked on over the course of several months and while the group had a deliberate intention of creating one long, continuous song, over the course of its evolution—as new sounds were layered onto the bedtrack of bass and drums—two parts emerged, one more minimal and the other louder and fuller, hence the title.
