Sacha Mullin Premieres ‘Bed All Day’ | New Album ‘Social Touch’ Out October 19

Chicago songwriter and vocalist Sacha Mullin returns with ‘Bed All Day’, the second single from his forthcoming album ‘Social Touch’, out October 19 through Dipterid Records. We’re pleased to premiere it today.

If the title suggests hiding under the covers and ignoring the world, that isn’t quite where Mullin is going with it. The song is really about the point in a relationship where circling around what you actually want stops being useful.

“Sometimes one can get so frustrated dancing around a subject with someone that eventually you just have to look at them and say, ‘Fine. You know what? Here’s how it is, how it’s going to be, here’s what I need: to be seen and heard and loved. Now can we dance already?’”

It’s a fairly direct sentiment for a musician whose songs have often taken the longer, stranger route. ‘Social Touch’ finds Mullin working with producer William Parker Wood and moving further towards pop, although anyone familiar with his previous records will know that “pop” can mean quite a few things in his hands.

‘Bed All Day’ certainly has some bounce to it, which makes the subject underneath it slightly more awkward in a good way. Mullin describes the song as “a plea to be real with someone who keeps flitting in and out of closeness”, with all the doubt that follows once the initial excitement starts wearing off.

“All this with a bubbly pop veneer, of course,” he adds.

There is also a small musical nod tucked into the pre-chorus. Mullin cites ‘Swimming’ by Martha and the Muffins as one of his favourite songs about the fear of love and wanted a little of it in there.

‘Bed All Day’ follows ‘Hypocenter’, which arrived in September on a limited seven-inch backed with Mullin’s version of Alexz Johnson’s ‘Voodoo’.

‘Social Touch’ is Mullin’s fourth solo album and follows 2023’s ‘Casino Wilderness Period’. The new record was produced, recorded and mixed by William Parker Wood at Superior Street in Chicago, with Mullin and Wood arranging the songs together.

The album arrives October 19 through Dipterid Records on vinyl, CD and digitally.
