Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol Share ‘Follow Through’ Ahead of ‘Ca$h Grab’
Austin trio Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol have shared ‘Follow Through’, the final single before their new album ‘Ca$h Grab’, out October 23 through Permanent Teeth / RBBP.
The title picks up where 2024’s ‘Big Dumb Riffs’ left off, at least in terms of the joke. The music is another matter. “More pop song forward, while still in the idiom of heavy music,” is how bassist and vocalist Aaron Metzdorf describes the new record. There is still plenty of weight in it. Leo Lydon’s eight-string guitar, Metzdorf’s distorted bass and Sean St. Germain’s drums are all very much intact, but the songs have been given more room than they had on ‘Big Dumb Riffs’, where the band often tried to get in, make the point and get out again in under two minutes. “The heavier parts are even heavier, but more fleshed out,” Metzdorf says. “And the heaviness is not just in a guitar riff, but heavy lyrics, heavy melody.” That change seems to be the main story with ‘Ca$h Grab’. The riffs are still there, but so are more obvious hooks, bigger vocals and a little more space around everything. The band mention Built To Spill, Sugar and early ’90s Rush among the things that crept into the writing.
Metzdorf sings lead on five of the album’s fourteen tracks, while Lydon stretches his voice further on songs including ‘Fate Is’, ‘Peaches’ and the title track. The band have barely stopped moving since ‘Big Dumb Riffs’, touring on their own and alongside The Sword, Death From Above 1979, Pigs x7 and King Buffalo, while continuing to run Big Dumb Fest back home in Austin.
Pre-order ‘Ca$h Grab’ on LP, CD or cassette via the band’s official store.
