Serguei Spoutnik Releases New Album ‘Transcend’

Serguei Spoutnik, the solo project of French artist Damien Lecoq, releases his new album ‘Transcend’ today via Independent Practice.

Lecoq previously toured Europe with QDRPD before releasing his debut EP ‘Subject, Verb, Complement’ in 2020 through Santé Records. With ‘Transcend’, he moves further into a personal sound built from dream pop, darkwave, downtempo and ambient music.

The album was conceived during a residency in Reykjavik, Iceland. During the project, Spoutnik met seven local artists over seven days. Each artist lent him a synthesizer for a day, while he gave them a camcorder to film with. The shaky, imperfect footage they made became part of the album’s emotional world.

‘Transcend’ looks at the space between Lecoq’s adolescence in a housing estate in France and his adult life as a queer artist. It is a record about memory, change and finding a new form of freedom.

The album was produced by Serguei Spoutnik and Apollo Noir, recorded between Hafnar.Haus in Reykjavik, a home studio in Le Mans and Studios Noirs in Vichy. It was mixed by Apollo Noir and mastered by Adrien Pallot. The artwork and design were created by Lukas Persyn, with photos by Victor Pattyn.

Across seven tracks, ‘Transcend’ keeps an intimate mood while still using clear pop shapes. Vocals, guitar and synthesizers move through soft textures and darker electronic tones, making the album feel very private.
