LUCKY’s ‘LUCKY’ Debut: A Love Letter to San Francisco Night
Slated for a September 12, 2025 release via Royal Oakie Records, with a physical release to follow on March 6, 2026, LUCKY is the self-titled debut from a band born of late-night rambles and a shared musical spirit.
The project, originally a two-man venture between songwriters Andrew St James (French Cassettes, Juan Wayne) and Peter Kegler (Half Stack), has grown into a full-fledged band with the addition of Marika Christine and Zach Elsasser (Affectionately). The result is a sound with an honest, y’allternative twang that feels like the perfect soundtrack for a long drive with the windows down.
The album’s creation story has a classic rock and roll feel, as if ripped from the pages of a music magazine. Andrew and Peter, kindred spirits who met through a show, forged their bond over late nights at a Bernal Heights dive bar, The Lucky Horseshoe, which gave the band its name. They approached the songwriting with a spirit of letting go, each bringing their own songs to the table and then dialing them in together.
Album opener ‘Falling Through’ pairs talking-country verses with a hard-hitting chorus, while lead single ‘Traveler’ was reimagined from a folk shuffle into a mid-tempo rocker. ‘Friends’ pulses with a driving beat, a homage to St James’s bi-coastal lifestyle and the city’s iconic House of Prime Rib…
‘LUCKY’ is a record that shows what happens when you prioritize friendship and fun, not taking things too seriously. It’s a feeling that translates to the listener, inviting them to drive fast somewhere new with a bit of reckless abandon.
