Spaceface Share Dreamlike New Single ‘Beach Within Reach’ Ahead of ‘Lunar Manor’
With a reputation for blurring the lines between blissed-out dream pop and psychedelia, Spaceface are back with their latest single, ‘Beach Within Reach.’
The track arrives as a focus point of their forthcoming third album, ‘Lunar Manor,’ set for release on August 22 via Montreal’s Mothland.
Led by Jake Ingalls (formerly of The Flaming Lips) and Eric Martin, Spaceface have long specialized in transforming hazy textures into something at once euphoric and disarmingly intimate. ‘Beach Within Reach’ leans into that duality: a meditative lullaby that hovers on hushed harmonies and weightless synths, evoking the washed-out atmospheres of Beach House while carrying the gentle strangeness that has always been Spaceface’s hallmark.
The song carries an autobiographical shimmer. Written by Martin with his partner while driving from Memphis to Los Angeles, its title nods to a beloved oddity of the Mid-South: a man-made lake in Olive Branch, Mississippi, famously rebranded with trucked-in sand as “the beach within reach.” The band reimagines that surreal roadside landmark as a metaphorical refuge — a mental shore to retreat to, wherever you may be.
Since their inception in 2012, Spaceface have carved out a distinctive corner of modern psychedelia, balancing theatrical playfulness with emotional weight. Their lineup now includes bassist Marina Aguerre (Teal Pop) and drummer Garet Powell (Double Wish), who bring a sharper rhythmic undercurrent to Ingalls’ and Martin’s kaleidoscopic vision. Along the way, they’ve released two full-lengths — ‘Sun Kids’ (2017) and ‘Anemoia’ (2022) — and collaborated with a wide constellation of artists, from Julianna Barwick and Julien Baker to Phantogram and Pearl & the Oysters.
If their earlier singles from ‘Lunar Manor,’ the satirical disco groove of ‘Everything is Money’ and the shimmering optimism of ‘Be Here Forever’ — showcased the record’s range, ‘Beach Within Reach’ reveals its heart: a soft-focus meditation on memory, imagination, and the little sanctuaries we build for ourselves.
With ‘Lunar Manor,’ Spaceface promise a collection that slips seamlessly between love songs, existential wanderings, and tongue-in-cheek party anthems. “These are sincere attempts to make you and us feel good amidst the ever-shifting chaos of the world,” the band explains. Judging by ‘Beach Within Reach,’ they’re succeeding.
‘Beach Within Reach’ is available now, with the full album ‘Lunar Manor’ following August 22 via Mothland.
