Atlanta death disco unit CSDM detonate their debut LP in a snarling, synth-soaked fever-party and plot a full-blown Euro takeover this fall.

‘Convertible Hearse’ is the debut full-length from Atlanta’s CSDM, short for Celebrity Death Slot Machine, and it’s out now via Mothland and EXAG’ Records. The band describes their sound as death disco, and that’s a pretty solid place to start. It’s very energetic and rhythm-forward, with a dark, slightly off-kilter edge that blends post-punk with a sharp sense of style.

The album is full of jagged synths, heavy grooves, and bursts of saxophone that cut through the mix. There’s a clear love for the theatrical, but it never overshadows the songwriting. Instead, CSDM leans into their weirdness in a way that feels confident, mixing social commentary and absurdity with a sound that’s just as ready for the club as it is for the basement show.

Formed in 2021, the band has already played with The KVB, BODEGA, Iceage, and Model/Actriz, and made appearances at SXSW, M for Montreal, and Treefort Festival. Their 2022 EP ‘Hell Stairs’ laid the foundation — gritty, glamorous, and unpredictable. Convertible Hearse builds on that and expands it, with lyrics that are sharp, strange, and often very funny, all wrapped in a production style that makes the chaos feel oddly polished.
