Hailing from Melbourne come Badgers emerging from the second wave of Australian psychedelia with ‘Why Am I Your Only Friend?’ a party-ready belter that makes you want to rip off your mask and jump into a mosh-pit filled with the sweatiest of punters. Fronted by Michael Badger, who has mixed and recorded the likes of King Gizzard & The Lizard and Amyl & The Sniffers, Badgers have returned with the follow up to their retro-tinged debut single ‘Make It Rain’ with the mind-melting, psychedelic cauldron that is ‘Why Am I Your Only Friend?’.
‘Why Am I Your Only Friend?’ itself bursts out of the gates into a fuzz-laden fantasy land, hosting an atmosphere thick with riff-heavy guitars and a gung-ho rhythm section that hits you like a freight-train. It’s a psychedelic, garage-rock, space jam pint-spiller reminiscent of the likes of OSees, Wand and the aforementioned King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
With 2020 bringing a halt to Badgers plans that included a now cancelled UK tour thanks to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, the quartet look to take the tail end of the year and send it swinging beyond Port Phillip Bay and far into the cosmos.
‘Why Am I Your Only Friend?’ was released via UK label Strong Island Recordings who have previously released the likes of Los Bitchos, Rosie Alena, Sleep Eaters and Ugly.
