We are really pleased to have the EAR 834P Deluxe phono stage as part of our listening system. EAR, or Esoteric Audio Research Ltd, has long been regarded as one of the most respected names in high-end valve audio, and the 834P remains one of its best-known designs.
We are using the Deluxe edition of the EAR 834P, which includes a built-in volume control. This allows it to be connected directly to a power amplifier, bypassing a conventional preamplifier altogether. In practical terms, this means that the phono signal can travel through a shorter and simpler signal path, with fewer components between the cartridge and the amplifier.
As discussed in [Audiophilia](http://www.audiophilia.com/hardware/ear834p.htm), reducing the number of stages in the signal path can help preserve more of the information contained in the record groove.
The EAR 834P is a compact, high-performance valve phono stage with a simple and versatile design. It is easy to set up, yet capable of remarkably refined performance. Moving Magnet cartridges are supported as standard, while Moving Coil operation is available through an optional step-up stage.
Paired with a good turntable and cartridge, the 834P delivers the kind of rich, detailed and involving sound that makes listening to vinyl such a rewarding experience.

Each product is built from start to finish by a single engineer, fabricating a personal touch to the product that is closer to reassembling craftsmanship than the anonymous mass produced objects we have all become too familiar with. EAR’s high-end products are built from the finest materials and supplies possible. We strive to source parts locally as it enables us to partner closely with suppliers and have tight control on quality, all while reducing our transportation impact.
