Tender Ender Shares ‘Choice’ Ahead of New Album ‘Red Kites’
Swiss songwriter Thomas Schmidiger, who records as Tender Ender, has shared ‘Choice’, the third single from his forthcoming second album ‘Red Kites’, due November 13. The new song is accompanied by a visualizer.
We previously featured ‘Darkness’ and ‘Woke Up with a Knife’, both of which made considerable use of the home organ and its built-in rhythm machine. ‘Choice’ takes a different approach, with Schmidiger delivering much of the vocal almost as spoken word over a sparse piano arrangement. The song gradually builds into something closer to a hymn, while the lyrics question the familiar claim that there is no alternative. We interviewed Schmidiger last December about his debut album ‘Black Swan’, which came out in November 2025. Less than a year later, he is preparing its follow-up, a nine-track record written and recorded between 2022 and 2024 in Gysenstein, Switzerland.
For ‘Red Kites’, Schmidiger has kept the instrumentation fairly simple, working with piano, home organ, harmonium, vibraphone and pedal steel, alongside additional vocals from Sabine Ruch. The album was mixed by Manuel Egger and mastered by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone.
Watch the visualizer for ‘Choice’ below.
‘Red Kites’ will be released on November 13, 2026, and is available to pre-order on vinyl.
