The 4 Levels of Existence stands as one of my all-time favorite monuments of heavy Greek rock. This remarkable band recorded their sole album in a single ten-hour session, without a single overdub. Originally issued in only a handful of copies on the tiny Venus label, the record slipped quietly through the underground, becoming a hidden gem for those lucky enough to stumble upon it. Writing the liner notes for this Guerssen reissue was a real pleasure. It’s astonishing how many extraordinary bands emerged from Greece during that era, The 4 Levels of Existence among the most fascinating, right alongside Socrates Drank the Conium and others who helped shape the country’s underground.
