Sledding Share ‘Covert Station’ Video and Announce Debut EP ‘Sleep Tight’

Brooklyn band Sledding have shared a new single and video for ‘Covert Station’, taken from their forthcoming debut EP ‘Sleep Tight’, due November 20.

The song follows ‘My Golden Tempo’, which introduced the group back in August. Sledding came together last winter in a Ridgewood basement, during a particularly snowy stretch in New York. Singer-guitarists Aidan Drouse and Khadija “Deej” Aslam had already been playing together for years, going back to their time at Fordham University. Along with bassist Kelsey Kussman, they began working on new songs, eventually bringing in guitarist and keyboardist Woods Prewitt.

While ‘My Golden Tempo’ was a fast, guitar-heavy introduction, ‘Covert Station’ is considerably darker, with more of the post-punk and 1990s alternative rock influences that have been part of the band’s sound from the beginning.

Drouse explains: “When you’re writing music in the general arena of “rock,” the associated energy can be heightened and frenetic. Obviously we dabble in this as well, but the intent with our discography is to be able to subsume a breadth of emotion; we don’t want the ambiance of any two songs to feel redundant.

We deal with a lot of ominous energy in our music, and Covert Station just leans into a more ominous sub-genre of angst. We’re angst connoisseurs. This is a song about when you never fall asleep, but you also never wake up and when you get loud because anything is quieter than silence.”

The five-track ‘Sleep Tight’ EP also includes ‘&Again’, ‘Lorelai’ and ‘Did you know there are chords living down here?’. The band have been playing regularly around Brooklyn, including shows at Baby’s All Right, Night Club 101 and Le Bain.
