Los Angeles band Taleen Kali have shared a new single and video for ‘Black Rose’, featuring AFI’s Hunter Burgan on saxophone.

The song is taken from their forthcoming second album ‘Aepex’, due February 26, 2027, through Dum Dum Records. Kali describes ‘Black Rose’ as their dark desert song. She wanted something they could open a show with, driven by pounding drums and gradually building towards an ending where everything almost falls apart. Burgan’s saxophone comes in alongside the guitars and vocals, with all three taking turns before the song winds down.

“Every L.A. band needs to have a psyched out song,” says Kali, who considers ‘Black Rose’ the band’s own post-punk take on that idea. The single follows ‘Viper’, released in September. Taleen Kali’s first album, ‘Flower of Life’, came out in 2023, and for its follow-up the band returned to The Cave Studios in Los Angeles to work with producer Josiah Mazzaschi. Kali has also taken on a production role this time, working alongside bassist Miles Marsico and Mazzaschi. The current lineup features Kali on vocals and guitar, Genevieve Quiquivix on guitar, Marsico on bass and Ciara DeAlba on drums. Burgan also contributes bass to another song on the forthcoming record, ‘Eternal Eye’.
