Magenta Sunshine Release New Album ‘Clarity’

The Asheville band return with a brass-heavy mix of jazz, funk, soul and rock, recorded between North Carolina and New Orleans.

Magenta Sunshine, the Asheville, North Carolina group built around singer and guitarist David Morris Einzig, have released their new album, ‘Clarity’. The record follows their self-produced 2024 album ‘Serendipity’ and was recorded at the band’s home studio in Asheville and Art Is Sound Studio in New Orleans, with Keenan McRae handling production. Brass plays a central role in the band’s sound, with Jerome Widenhouse IV on flugelhorn, Kendra Warren on trombone and Dylan Hannan on saxophone and flute. Songs such as ‘Champagne’ and ‘Anyway’ lean towards funk and soul, with piano, Fender Rhodes and synthesizers adding to the arrangements.

‘See You When I Can’ takes a quieter approach, built around Einzig’s voice and acoustic guitar, while ‘The Lines’ looks back at the isolation of the pandemic. Across its eleven tracks, ‘Clarity’ brings together the different sides of a band equally at home with carefully arranged horn passages and more stripped-back songwriting.
