Pan American & Kramer Dive Deep on New Album ‘Interior of an Edifice Under the Sea’
Lead single ‘Under The Mariana Trench’ premieres alongside a video directed by Kramer.
Ambient pioneers Pan American and Kramer have teamed up for a full-length collaboration, ‘Interior of an Edifice Under the Sea,’ set to be released June 27th via Shimmy-Disc. It’s the kind of partnership that feels inevitable in retrospect…Mark Nelson’s minimalism meeting Kramer’s widescreen psychedelia in a place where atmosphere dissolves into the abyss.
They’ve offered a first glimpse with ‘Under The Mariana Trench,’ a slow-sinking drift of submerged synths and ghostly textures that feels like watching your last breath rise to the surface. The video, directed by Kramer himself, plays like a transmission from deep space or maybe deeper. It’s otherworldly and eerily calm.
“My work with Mark Nelson is as vital to me as breathing,” Kramer writes. “We don’t see limits. We follow the current. Our music breathes the liquid air of freedom.” That freedom comes through clearly on the single, untethered, weightless and strangely comforting in its vastness.
The album’s title suggests architecture where there should be none, structures imagined beneath the sea. It’s fitting. These aren’t songs in the usual sense; they’re environments, slow-forming and patiently detailed. If you’ve ever wondered what the ocean floor sounds like after the lights go out, this might be the closest you’ll get.
