‘La Genèse’ by Perilymph

Exclusive video premiere of ‘La Genèse’, taken from Perilymph’s upcoming album ‘Tout en Haut’. It’s a highly surreal animated video, that you can watch to your right!

Over the course of their four year existence, Perilymph have painted themselves into a whimsical and sometimes frightening universe of their own. It is a strange yet somehow familiar place, where musical motifs wax and wane like reoccurring dreams that never seem to shake. Maybe they like it there…Or maybe it’s just too late for them to get out…

This particular series of sonic excursions as shown on their new album “Tout En Haut” sees the band venturing deeper into the loungey moods of 70s soundtracks and library music. Making for a psychedelic sound cinema that transports the listener from pastoral oases to sophisticated cityspaces and all the way back to the outer limits of the cosmos where we were born.

Sung entirely in the French language, the introspective grooves and Moogy movements that make up ‘Tout En Haut’ chug infinite in 6/8 time like chiming cogs in some fantastic musical machine. This is the sound of the ever changing world of Perilymph – a place where the record may end but the music never stops.

Perilymph by Dennis Juengel

Musically, the idea behind the song was to create a linear prog-pop song that would gravitate around this ever-present synth riff. It never really stops through the whole song, and guides the listener through the different movements where the song keeps moving forward without going back to choruses or verses. The song talks about the concepts of pressure and stakes, and of expectations. The video was created and animated by graphic designer and animator Thami Nabil. The idea behind the video was to follow this linear development of the song, to accompany it graphically, and to offer visual representation of these abstract concepts, their confusing but also their comforting aspects.” Fabien from Perilymph
