Antonio Raia Shares ‘Veil of Echoes’ Video from ‘Σ [sigma]’

Antonio Raia has shared a new video for ‘Veil of Echoes’, taken from his new album ‘Σ [sigma]’, out now on Kohlhaas Records.

Raia recorded the album in Berlin with producer Francesco Donadello, inside the Wasserturm in Prenzlauer Berg. Built in 1877, it is the oldest water tower in the city. There were no overdubs and no post-production. Raia played baritone and alto saxophone, koshi and voice, with the sound of the room left very much as it was. Donadello recorded, mixed and produced the sessions.

‘Σ [sigma]’ is the first part of a trilogy Raia is making around Berlin, with each chapter recorded in a different place. The album follows his 2018 solo record ‘Asylum’. Since then he has also worked outside the usual album format. In 2024, at the invitation of Béla Tarr, he made ‘Facing Béla Tarr’, a piece for saxophone and waterphone based on the film ‘Prologue’. Earlier this year he composed the music for Martin Errichiello’s six-part Rai Radio3 work ‘[campanamuta]’. Giuseppe Ielasi mastered ‘Σ [sigma]’, while the cover was designed by Vasilis Marmatakis.

‘Σ [sigma]’ is out now via Kohlhaas Records.
