The Mellons Share Final Single ‘Say Goodbye’ Before ‘The Mellons In Color’
The Mellons have shared ‘Say Goodbye,’ the final single before the release of their second album, ‘The Mellons In Color,’ out June 19.
The song marks a turning point for the band, both musically and personally. Written around the idea of a major inner shift, ‘Say Goodbye’ looks at what happens when old versions of the self fall away and something new has to be built from the ground up.
The band describe the track as being about “the intense violence of a major paradigm shift,” and the process of melting down the layers you once thought were yourself. But the song is not only about loss. Once everything has been stripped back to zero, there is also the possibility of starting again.
That idea sits at the centre of the line “Close your eyes, make a wish, count to three and blow,” a nod to Willy Wonka and the strange magic of beginning again from nothing.
‘Say Goodbye’ also reflects a real change inside The Mellons, following the departure of original member Rob Jepson. As the band put it, when The Mellons close a door, they open a window.
With ‘The Mellons In Color’ arriving June 19, ‘Say Goodbye’ offers one last preview of the album and a clear signal that the band are entering a new phase.
