Strange Lot Share New Single ‘Nobody Seems To Do The Math,’ Announce Tour With Melody’s Echo Chamber

Austin psych band Strange Lot have shared a new single, ‘Nobody Seems To Do The Math,’ taken from their upcoming self-titled album, out this summer via Greenway Records.

The track moves through synth haze, fuzzed-out guitars, and a shoegaze-leaning pulse. According to the band, it was written and recorded in one day and deals with the way people rush to conclusions before the full picture has come into view.

‘Nobody Seems To Do The Math’ also arrives with a run of U.S. dates supporting Melody’s Echo Chamber. The tour includes stops at Webster Hall in New York, The Belasco in Los Angeles, Thalia Hall in Chicago, Black Cat in D.C., and more.

The new Strange Lot album grew out of a reset for singer and guitarist Dominic Mena. In 2022, Mena was without a band and close to ending the project. Instead, he went back to recording on his own, writing close to 30 demos over the course of a month. Those recordings became the base of the album.

Alex Maas of The Black Angels came on to produce after hearing the demos. Mena recorded the material himself, with Maas helping shape the direction of the record. Jim Eno of Spoon mixed several tracks, including ‘5AM,’ ‘Timeline Drops,’ ‘Hatin’ You,’ and ‘Always Alone,’ while Howie Weinberg handled mastering.

Strange Lot began as Mena’s bedroom project in Phoenix before relocating to Austin in 2019. The current lineup features Mena on vocals and guitar, Cameron Martin on drums, Levi Murray on bass, and Jason Desiderio on synthesizer and guitar.

The band have previously supported The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Black Angels, Kikagaku Moyo, and LA Witch. In 2024, they toured with Boogarins and played Levitation Festival in Austin. This year, they appeared at SXSW, toured Europe and the UK, and played Fuzz Club Eindhoven.
