Primitive Ring Release Debut Album and Share ‘The Callous Man’ Video

Primitive Ring have released their self-titled debut album via In The Red Records, alongside a new video for ‘The Callous Man.’

The Los Angeles trio features Bert Hoover on bass and vocals, Charles Moothart on guitar and vocals, and Jon Modaff on drums.

The album is an 11-track, just-under-42-minute blast of heavy psych, garage rock, and raw power-trio energy. It was recorded by Mark Rains in December 2025 at The Station House in Echo Park.

‘The Callous Man’ follows earlier album tracks ‘Lies From The Other Side’ and ‘Heads Will Roll,’ both of which helped introduce the band’s direct, hard-driving sound ahead of the LP. The record keeps the focus on the group’s chemistry, with each member bringing a distinct writing voice while still locking into one shared, physical sound.

Primitive Ring formed in September 2024 after Hoover and Moothart began looking for a new creative outlet. In 2025, the band released four 7-inches through four labels: Greenway, In The Red, Reverberation Appreciation Society, and Fuzz Club UK. Their debut LP now gives that early run a fuller shape.

The band are also playing a run of live dates, including San Francisco’s Kilowatt on May 22, several June shows at Zebulon in Los Angeles, Oakland’s Mosswood Meltdown in July, and European dates later in the year and in early 2027.
