Heimat Share New Single ‘Don’t You Tell Me’

Heimat, the Italian-American project of Gianluca Favero and Morgan Pettersson-Feret, have shared their second single, ‘Don’t You Tell Me,’ out May 8.

The project began between Venice and Seattle after Favero, who has toured across Europe and the UK with Painted Vein and MØAA, started pulling his own songs into a new shape. His background in shoegaze and post-punk meets Pettersson-Feret’s Seattle grunge roots and mountain folk instincts, giving Heimat a sound that feels split between damp city streets, blown-out amps, and something more windswept.

With Heimat, the focus turns inward. The duo wrote and performed all the instruments themselves, recording, mixing, and mastering between Fox Studio in Seattle and Venice.

‘Don’t You Tell Me’ circles the last stretch of a relationship, when staying starts to feel like its own kind of damage. The song works from a small shift in language: the same words, turned one way, sound like blame; turned another, they become release.

“The lyrics are a play on words,” the band explains. “Almost the same phrase, but when punctuated differently and spoken with different tones, can come across as two completely different standpoints and feelings. When it’s time to let this relationship go, don’t make me feel like the perpetrator, don’t tell me to ‘just go’. When you want to leave this relationship, don’t tell me anything, just go.”
