Young Lovers Return with ‘Back Again,’ Detail New Album ‘The Circle’s End’
Los Angeles post-rock and shoegaze outfit Young Lovers have returned with a new single, ‘Back Again,’ offering another preview of their forthcoming album ‘The Circle’s End,’ due out June 26 via Anxiety Blanket Records.
Formed in the San Fernando Valley’s DIY circuit, the band—guitarist Mikey Macapagal, drummer Eddie Ramos, bassist Josh Solomon, and vocalist Jonny Higa—built their following through backyard shows and community-driven events. With roots spanning Filipino, Japanese, and Mexican-American backgrounds, Young Lovers have become a quietly influential presence in the city’s indie scene.
‘Back Again’ arrives as a striking instrumental piece, moving from hazy, atmospheric passages into a powerful crescendo of layered guitars and percussion. The track reflects a more expansive and emotionally direct direction for the group as they move toward their second full-length release.
‘Back Again’ is a musical depiction of the visceral, hard-hitting nature of tragedy, but more literally is a musical portrait of a car crash,” the band explains.
“The car crash referenced actually happened to our lead vocalist Jonny Higa, and is meant to be as close an aural approximation of the twisting of metal, complete chaos and disorientation, and sudden, absolute quiet as we can interpret through our lens. Musically, you can think of this as a real-time stylistic transition from our first album to this one.”
The upcoming album ‘The Circle’s End’ is described as an intimate coming-of-age record, exploring themes of grief, heartbreak, intergenerational trauma, and self-discovery. It was first introduced with the single ‘Ross,’ a slow-burning, orchestral track accompanied by a visual directed by Devonte Johnson. The video features choreography by Shane Higa, performed alongside Eileen Higa.
With its layered arrangements and emotional weight, ‘The Circle’s End’ positions itself as one of Young Lovers’ most fully realized works to date.
‘Back Again’ is out April 28, 2026, with ‘The Circle’s End’ following on June 26 via Anxiety Blanket Records.
