Gooseberry Announce ‘Simple Sucker,’ Drop New Single ‘Durak’

Brooklyn trio Gooseberry are back in motion with a new LP on the way and a single that sets the tone without easing you in.

‘Simple Sucker’ lands September 25. The first cut, ‘Durak,’ arrives April 24 with a video that leans into the song’s blunt point of view.

The band. Asa Daniels on guitar and vocals, Evin Rossington on drums, Will Hammond on bass. Regulars on New York stages, with stops at Bowery Ballroom and runs alongside Ringo Starr, BabyJake, and Tanner Usrey. The new material follows a winter on the West Coast and a steady climb in listeners.

‘Durak’ hits fast. Guitars up front, drums pushing, no extra space. The reference points are clear without being copied, a streak of Green Day-style character writing runs through it, tied to the snap of their early records like ‘Dookie.’

Daniels lays out the target in full:

“In many ways, ‘Durak’ is the engine powering one core piece of this album’s theme (the greatest fool). The character in this song is sure that “back in his prime” he was an adonis, a credit to the world, able to bend luck to his will (while conveniently forgetting all of the privilege and help he had along the way). Notably, the title of the song comes from a Russian cardgame, which roughly translates to “idiot / asshole.” Sonically, an ode to the glory days of Green Day’s ‘Dookie,’ a record this song’s protagonist would have absolutely loved while misunderstanding all of its message.”

That thread carries into the LP. ‘Simple Sucker’ circles one idea from different angles. The figure who never clocks his own blind spots. The voice that talks loud and misses the point. The songs keep it direct, built for a room that sings back.

‘Durak’ is out April 24. ‘Simple Sucker’ follows on September 25. A spring 2026 tour is already on sale.
