Exclusive Os Cabides Share ‘Bicicleta’ From ‘Happy and Sad at the Same Time’
Brazil’s Exclusive Os Cabides are back with a new single, ‘Bicicleta,’ a quick, strange jolt that previews their upcoming EP ‘Happy and Sad at the Same Time,’ due later this year.
‘Bicicleta’ runs on repetition that starts simple and ends somewhere else. The hook keeps circling until it slips into something stranger, lines about eating a bicycle, then riding it after the fact, delivered like it makes total sense. It plays like a private joke that forgot to explain itself. João Paulo Pretto first wrote it years ago at an open stage, more interested in getting a reaction than refining it. That feeling stuck. The recording doesn’t clean it up.
There’s a trace of early Pink Floyd in there, especially the sideways logic of Syd Barrett’s ‘Bike,’ but it doesn’t read as a direct lift. More like a shared habit of letting objects drift into nonsense. I keep hearing Os Mutantes too; not exactly subtle, but that’s part of the charm. Things wobble, humor cuts in at odd angles, and whatever meaning is there stays just out of reach. The song doesn’t chase it.
The band keeps things tight and physical. Pretto handles vocals and guitar alongside Antônio dos Anjos, with Maitê Fontalva on bass, Carolina Werutsky on drums, and Eduardo Possa on lead guitar. Possa co-produced with Paulo Costa Franco, who also recorded, mixed, and mastered the track at Ouié Studio in Florianópolis. You can hear the room in it. Nothing feels stacked or overworked.
‘Bicicleta’ opens a seven-track EP recorded live in studio, built off the momentum from Coisas Estranhas. That record pushed them further out, especially once ‘Lagartixa Tropical’ started circulating and the festival slots followed. This one sounds less interested in stretching out and more in locking into something immediate, then getting out.
