Golden Samphire Band Announce ‘Dream Is the Driver,’ Share ‘Chalk Space’
Golden Samphire Band, the Sussex trio of Mik and Rich Hanscomb and Hannah Lewis, will release their debut album ‘Dream Is the Driver’ this spring via Wayside & Woodland Recordings.
Premiering today, ‘Chalk Space’ is from the debut album by Golden Samphire Band, a new project from the Junkboy brothers Mik and Rich Hanscomb, joined by singer-songwriter Hannah Lewis.
The group formed after earlier collaborations around the Hanscombs’ previous work, now moving forward with a shared, song-based approach rooted in coastal life. ‘Dream Is the Driver’ brings together home-recorded tracks that sit between psych-folk and understated pop.
Across the record, the band focuses on everyday scenes along the Sussex coastline. ‘Waking Moment,’ ‘Harbour Waves,’ and ‘Chalk Space’ draw on the Downs and the sea, while ‘Bid Farewell’ turns to life inside coastal care homes. Elsewhere, ‘(We Wunt) Travel Further’ reflects on staying close to home, ‘Phosphorous Sun’ follows attempts at growing food in a small garden, and ‘Starling Dance’ traces a walk along Brighton Pier under shifting murmurations.
‘Dream Is the Driver’ is coming soon on Wayside & Woodland Recordings.
