The Glass Key Share ‘Nightmare Detective’ From Upcoming Album ‘Memoria’
London-based instrumental outfit The Glass Key are gearing up to unleash their debut full-length album, ‘Memoria,’ arriving three and a half years after their initial EP.
Today, we are thrilled to premiere ‘Nightmare Detective,’ a dizzying instrumental track that perfectly encapsulates the band’s self-described ethos: “Apocalyptic. Drone. Funk!”. As the band shared, this is a tight, melodic, loopy, electric ride into an ever spiralling feverish dream.
Initially formed as a duo by Andrea Giornmi and Nicola Lombardi , the project eventually mutated into a trio of playing around hypnotic flow with the permanent addition of British drummer Frank Byng. On ‘Nightmare Detective,’ listeners are immediately thrust into a sonic maelstrom of heavy electronic rhythms, thick layers of guitars, and hypnotic synth riffs. Building upon a foundation of Afrobeat and dubby rhythms , the song uses driving, bluesy guitar figures to push toward a massive, towering crescendo.
The Glass Key’s distinct sonic palette borrows the cinematic atmosphere of Ennio Morricone and the post-rock grandiosity of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, while actively maintaining the jagged, math-rock sensibilities of Battles. With Byng handling both the drum kit and the mixing desk , the band’s evolution showcases a massive step forward in both dynamics and cohesion. The upcoming album also promises a highly variegated instrumentation, boasting an array of guests on marimba, violin, and saxophone to further expand their sound.
Take a ride with ‘Nightmare Detective,’ ‘Memoria’ officially drops in March 2026 via Weird Beard and Echodelick Records.
