Montello and ‘Suit & Tie’
Montello is an indie-rock quartet from Wigan that formed in late 2023. Today, February 27th, the band releases a new single titled ‘Suit & Tie,’ a track designed to reflect the sound of their live shows.
Produced by Luke Owens, the song hits the sweet spot between nostalgic 90s Manchester and modern indie pop. You get jangling guitar tones wrapped around drums and a grounding bass line. Think the instant hookiness of The Vaccines mixed with the groove of The Stone Roses. Jacob Knowles delivers the lead vocals while holding down the rhythm guitar, flanked by Liam Conway on lead, Jacob Ratcliffe on bass, and Toby Devereux keeping the beat on drums.
The band wrote ‘Suit & Tie’ as an anthem dedicated to the struggle of creative minds. It’s a middle finger to the soul crushing desk job. As the band puts it, they refuse to quit their passion despite the tough climate for artists and venues, declaring that none of them want to “die in a suit and a tie”. That raw desperation bleed right into the recording.
