American Sharks Return With ‘Going Insane,’ Their First New Ripper In Five Years

It’s been half a decade since we last heard from American Sharks. In the timeline of a greased-up, high-velocity rock band from Austin, five years of radio silence is basically an eternity.

You might have assumed they finally hung up the denim vests for good. But the trio is back today to prove they are very much still kicking. American Sharks have announced their third studio album, ‘Not Dead Yet.’ It arrives April 17 via Permanent Teeth, and to mark the news, they’ve shared the lead single ‘Going Insane.’

If you missed the specific brand of chaos these guys bring, the track is a welcome return to form. It’s a three-minute blast of punk-metal hybridity that sounds a bit like Weezer if they were raised on a strict diet of bong rips and Black Sabbath riffs. The song doesn’t waste time trying to be atmospheric or moody. It just puts a foot on the gas and stays there. It is hooky, sweaty, and loud.

The new album follows their 2019 LP ’11:11′ and their 2013 self-titled debut. While the core trio remains the engine here, they called in some heavy reinforcements for the new tracks. ‘Not Dead Yet’ features guest guitar work from a laundry list of heavy music lifers, including Mike Derks of GWAR, Zach Blair of Rise Against, Kyle Shutt of The Sword, and David Sullivan of Red Fang.

You can listen to ‘Going Insane’ below. The band is also set to bring these new riffs to the stage this spring, heading out on a massive North American tour with Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol starting in mid-April.
