School Disco is back, and they’re taking us on a darker trip. The Brighton-based quartet, known for their mind-bending blend of prog, psychedelia, and krautrock, has just dropped their new single, ‘Happen.’

It’s a brooding, hypnotic track that showcases some of the band’s most intricate and complete work yet.

Recorded live with minimal overdubs at Farm Road Studios, ‘Happen’ captures untamed intensity. The track was born quickly out of a jam session and feels like a definitive line in the sand..a new chapter for the band. You can hear their influences from legends like Black Sabbath and CAN, but the sound is all their own. It’s a fluid journey that drifts through floating verses, punctuated by bursts of fuzzy guitar and shifting time signatures before erupting into an angular instrumental break.

If you’ve been a fan of their live shows or are just looking for something that hits the sweet spot between Pink Floyd’s ‘Meddle’ era and modern psych-rock like Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, this is it.

Vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Rory Lethbridge explains: “’Happen’ was the first track written in a new batch of songs we had put together. The bones of it were written and recorded in a day while me and Harry were jamming at Studio Nunn. We wrote and recorded a song specifically for a show we were doing for Andy at Love Thy Neighbour. He does a weekend of gigs normally in January called Triptych, and we were headlining one of the nights. What makes these nights fun is that he does a lathe cut for each night. We didn’t have anything we could use for it so we had to come up with something new. ‘Happen’ was that. It also felt like it was the line in the sand between Denton Rock and whatever we were going to do next the song changed a bit between the initial lathe cut and this version but it felt like the start of a new chapter”
