Caicos Unveil ‘Behemoth’

Indie-pop maestro Caicos (the moniker of Alex Frenkel of Gospels) is back with the enveloping, breezy new single ‘Behemoth,’ the first taste of his upcoming EP/7″ of the same name, set for release on October 24th via Very Jazzed.

The track arrives with an exciting video directed by Rozalina Burkova. ‘Behemoth’ is a characteristically lush piece of indie-pop, yet it grapples with a weighty psychological theme: the burdensome secrets we carry from past experiences into new relationships.

Frenkel offered this insight into the song’s genesis: “To me, the behemoth is a tryingly-formative experience from our past that we silently carry until it becomes very burdensome to divulge when embarking on cultivating new relationships. How can we possibly effectively communicate the emotions that have calcified over such a long period of time? The song explores a few examples of behemoths as well as the problems that might arise when deciding to finally attempt to share them.”

The upcoming ‘Behemoth/ChainReaction’ EP showcases Caicos’ ability to blend songwriting featuring a collaborative cast including:

Mike Gordon on drums.
The sagacious mixing mind of Phil Joly.
Sarah Goldstone (keyboardist for boygenius, Lucy Dacus) on piano.
A gospel choir from Nigeria and a string orchestra from Serbia, elevating the compositions.
Mastering handled by NYC sonic wizard Heba Kadry.

Following his celebrated 2023 LP, ‘Ascension Intention,’ the new EP promises to explore the psychological toll and potential “restitution” that can come with participating in new, complex relationships.
