Basaltic Plateau Unveils ‘Cuttlefish Galaxy’ from ‘Dead Dinosaurs Echoes’
Sardinian instrumental trio Basaltic Plateau has released the lead single from their debut LP, ‘Dead Dinosaurs Echoes’. The album is set for release on October 13, 2025, via Electric Valley Records.
The band, comprised of Maurizio Cau (guitars, synths), Marco Serra (bass), and Roberto Loscerbo (drums), fuses psychedelic rock, stoner rock, and noise. Their debut album is a sonic journey through time and consciousness, with heavy guitars, distant synths, and a powerful rhythm section. It’s a cosmic drift through astral storms that also reflects on humanity’s relationship with nature.
The band’s creation also ties together some unfinished business. Marco and Maurizio had played together in a university band in the early 2000s, but they never recorded an album. Years later, on their first day in the studio as Basaltic Plateau, Marco jokingly reminded Maurizio, “You owe me a record.” With the addition of Roberto, a seasoned drummer from the Bologna music scene, the trio finally brought their long-awaited debut to life.
About the premiere single, “Cuttlefish Galaxy,” the band stated:
“‘Cuttlefish Galaxy’ is a sonic creature swimming through cosmic currents like a stellar cuttlefish: fluid, silent, mutating. The track is entirely instrumental and lives in balance between two elements: water and the sidereal void. It seems to be born on a seabed, but ends up in orbit. The opening is rarefied, dreamy: liquid synths imitate the language of the abyss, while a warm, pulsing bass introduces the heartbeat of the galaxy. The climax is not violent: it is a continuous transformation, where sound changes shape like a cuttlefish shedding its skin. The track ends in the silence of the void, but with a residual echo of light, as if a creature had passed by and left a trail behind.”
