Honey Motel Glow on New Single ‘If You Didn’t Exist’
Liverpool’s quartet Honey Motel continue their upward trajectory with the premiere of their new video for ‘If You Didn’t Exist’.
The track marks an emotional and creative turning point for Honey Motel. The video, premiering today, follows just weeks after the song’s June 4th release, layering vivid imagery onto an already evocative piece of music. With its swirl of blues-laced textures and sudden jolts of alt-rock energy, ‘If You Didn’t Exist’ reveals the band’s elan for writing songs that feel instinctive. Produced by Alexandros Brits (Clean Cut Kid, Michael Aldag), it’s a piece that moves with quiet intensity. It’s shifting from hushed, smoke-hung verses to bright flares of guitar and rhythm. Lyrically, the song leans inward, reflecting on the invisible anchors that steady our lives. The ones that might appear minor from the outside, but without them, the scaffolding starts to sway.
Talking about the single, guitarist Sam explains: “This is the first track the band and Fred clicked together on. I showed him the track in one of our first rehearsals and Lew and Jack played along. It was like the track went from black and white to technicolour instantly. He just seemed to get it…Fred brought it to life. Thematically, ‘If You Didn’t Exist’ is about the quiet weight certain things carry in our lives. Things that might seem insignificant to others, but for us, hold everything together. A favourite band, a partner, a personal obsession, take them away, and suddenly the whole structure starts to wobble. The song sits with that feeling, the fear of losing what makes life feel like life.”
Formed in Liverpool, Honey Motel’s chemistry was catalysed by the arrival of vocalist Freddie Griggs in 2024, following the steady formation of the rhythm section by Meredith, bassist Jack Hughes, and drummer Lew Fogg. Their live debut as a four-piece at Liverpool Sound City earlier this year set the stage for a breakout run, including tour support for The Lottery Winners, and sets at The Great Escape and the forthcoming Y Not Festival main stage alongside The Prodigy and The Wombats.
