‘Have You Done This Before?’ is the first, and last, album by Nowhere, the moniker of Sicilian musician Roberto Bonfissuto, who passed away in 2019.

Compiled posthumously from a clutch of fragile home recordings, it’s a work that feels both spectral and deeply personal: unfinished songs tracked in solitude with just guitar, piano, and voice, like half-lit sketches scrawled in the margins of a notebook.

Bonfissuto left behind a tangle of demos and fragments, lo-fi in fidelity but rich with feeling…tape hiss, room tone, the flicker of melodies that seem to arrive and disappear like fading memories. These were never meant for an audience, and might have stayed buried if not for his brother Giulio, who, alongside producer Andrea Liuzza (Beautiful Losers, Are You Real?), spent a year carefully piecing them together. The result is a double album—one disc preserving the raw demos in all their delicate immediacy, the other offering gently expanded versions that honor the spirit of the originals without polishing away their ghostly charm.

The music calls to mind Syd Barrett at his most inward-facing, or the damaged lullabies of Sparklehorse and early John Frusciante: intimate, untethered, and achingly sincere. There’s a strange gravity in these songs, a sense of time folding in on itself. They feel like dispatches from a private world, delivered just before it disappeared for good.

‘Have You Done This Before?’ is being released in 2025 by Beautiful Losers. To describe it in a few words, we would say this is a quiet signal that somehow got through, and thankfully, you’re hearing it.
