Chris Garneau Shares New Single “Canon” Ahead of Upcoming Album

New York singer-songwriter Chris Garneau returns with “Canon,” a crystalline, quietly unflinching new single that peels back the layers of heartbreak.

The track arrives as an early glimpse into Garneau’s forthcoming album, due out this fall.

“I wrote “Canon” as a way to strip the weight off memory—to stop giving pain a pedestal,” Garneau shares. “It’s not about closure, exactly. It’s more like refusing to keep mythologizing something that just hurt.”

True to that mission, “Canon” is a kind of anti-myth: heartbreak without the romanticized haze, pain without the poetry. Co-produced with Dan Marcellus, the song floats on Garneau’s stark vocals and glacial synths, offering a slow-burning meditation on the aftermath of love. Marcellus’s drums breathe a tense, human heartbeat into the track, while Tim Lappin’s basslines slither underneath like a current of unease, and Kirk Schoenherr’s guitar work adds sharp punctuations.

The lyrics cut to the bone: “just a cross we carved, not a canon.” There’s no mourning here — only the clear-eyed dismantling of personal myth. “Canon” is lean, sharp, and defiantly unsentimental — a gorgeous act of emotional disarmament.

Keep your ears open… Garneau’s full-length arrives later this year, promising more unflinching beauty to come.
