Chicanes Surface with New Single ‘Fray’ and Debut Album ‘Something Beautiful’

Norwich’s Chicanes emerge with Something Beautiful, a debut album that fractures and expands their alt-rock roots into darker, heavier terrain.

Produced by Adrian Bushby, whose fingerprints can be found across records by Foo Fighters and Muse, the album captures a band stretching into discomfort and control in equal measure.

Lead single “Fray” offers a glimpse into the record’s architecture. It opens with a fragile, skeletal verse before collapsing into shoegaze-laced distortion and a crushing finale. Beneath the surface lies grief refracted through dense layers of sound, where melody contorts around weight and space.

Throughout Something Beautiful, Chicanes fuse distorted riffwork, pounding drums and melodic vocals into a sound that shifts between high-octane heaviness and atmospheric introspection. Moments veer toward grunge and alt-metal, while others hover on the edge of something more abstract and cinematic. It is both immediate and slow-burning, a collision of energy and careful construction.

Known for intense, high-volume live sets, the band will mark the album’s arrival with a headline launch at Voodoo Daddy’s on June 20. With more shows, videos and recordings already in motion, Chicanes are beginning to pull their sound further into new territory.
