Deep Thrills Drops ‘Climax’ from ‘How Deep Is Your Thrill?’
LA’s Deep Thrills — the solo project of Matan KG, also known as one half of indie-electro duo Paper Idol — returns today with ‘Climax,’ a pulsing, slow-building banger that marks the latest drop from his upcoming debut EP, ‘How Deep Is Your Thrill?’, out July 11.
‘Climax’ kicks off in a simmering haze, built around a hypnotic synth arpeggio that refuses to sit still. It doesn’t take long before the track detonates into a sweaty, electroclash fever dream — something between a warehouse rave and a digital breakdown. “I built the track around this simple synth arpeggio,” Matan explains. “I wanted to see how much I could keep it building and building until it was just chaos.”
Chaos, but with precision. Deep Thrills describes his sound as hyperclash, a brash collision of hyperpop textures and electroclash aesthetics, and “Climax” delivers on that promise with neon-lit urgency. The EP itself was born from a moment of intensity: a near-death experience on a freeway overpass that pushed Matan into this project with eyes wide open and no time to waste.
Following his debut single ‘First Date,’ a favorite in both New York and LA’s underground party circuits, Deep Thrills quickly earned remix cosigns from the likes of Charli XCX, Dorian Electra, and The Hellp.
