‘Jane’ by Abby Payne | New Album
Abby Payne’s ‘Jane’ is a fever dream of late-night drives and literary ghosts.
Written in the haze of pandemic isolation, it starts as a personal confession before swerving into the world of Jane Eyre, with Payne finding unexpected kinship in the flawed, brooding Mr. Rochester. With its soaring chorus and a bridge born from a last-minute studio spark, ‘Jane’ feels both unhinged and precise. Payne’s longtime band locks in with telepathic ease, and Wil Farr’s co-production gives it a raw, cinematic punch.
From farm kid in Western New York to NYC music scene mainstay, Payne has always blurred the lines between Americana, rock, and pure storytelling. With ‘Jane,’ she taps into something deep—part classic novel, part open road anthem, all heart.
Sessions for the singles and the upcoming album feature Payne’s longtime band of in-demand sidemen who over the years have developed telepathic musical chemistry. These players are Payne’s husband, Kenny Shaw on drums, Chris Anderson on bass, Todd Caldwell on organ, and Wil Farr on guitar and backing vocals. Collectively their resumes include working with such artists as Dispatch, Pete Francis, Constantine Morales, Arielle Posen, Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart, Rachel Platten, Postmodern Jukebox, Great Big World, Graham Nash, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. The recordings were co-produced by Farr, songwriter and frontman for Hurrah! A Bolt of Light, Fireflies, and Paper and Sand.
