‘Demon Lover’ by RAVAGE
French experimental trio RAVAGE has just released a captivating new video for their track ‘Demon Lover’ and announced their first series of summer shows.
The group features violinists Mathieu Werchowski and Bastien Pelenc, along with percussionist Anthony Laguerre. Filmed by Pierre Veyser in May 2023, the video showcases their unique sound.
RAVAGE blends the hypnotic tones of two violins with the raw energy of a drum kit, creating a sound that oscillates between dreamlike doom and futuristic electroacoustics. Their music feels like a pulsar, free and fierce, resonating with a primal rage.
The members of RAVAGE are passionate sound explorers, pushing the boundaries between wildness and vulnerability. Their diverse experience spans large-scale productions with Cirque Trottola and Johan le Guillerm, intimate theater and dance collaborations (Espace Commun, Les Patries Imaginaires), bands (Filiamotsa, Laguerre/G.W. Sok, Bedmakers, Algecow…), radio creation (SCAM prize), solo performances, and even urban exploration combining contemporary art with imaginative tourism. Anthony, Mathieu, and Bastien came together to explore their shared passion: sound in all its forms.
Using an array of drum gear, effects, and electrified violins, these three musicians aim to free the unconscious. Imagine two ecstatic Paganinis, channeling the avant-garde extremes of John Cale or Warren Ellis, intertwining their bows with a modern-day composer’s percussion setup, equipped with contact mics and speakers that amplify their raw energy. This is RAVAGE—a fiercely independent musical experience that takes listeners on a multidimensional journey.
RAVAGE is set to perform at several festivals in France this summer, including Jazz à Luz on July 7, Baignade Sauvage on August 24, and in Bayonne on August 25. Their performances strike a balance between improvisation, minimalist music, and striking contrasts in timbre and intensity, creating vast, dynamic musical landscapes.
The lineup of RAVAGE consists of Bastien Pelenc and Mathieu Werchowski on violins and electronics, and Anthony Laguerre on extended drums.
The ‘Demon Lover’ music video was filmed during RAVAGE’s first residency at La Fonderie du Mans in May 2023. Captured by the skilled hands of Pierre Veyser, a talented musician and creator, the video reflects the raw, material essence of their music.
