‘Desdemona’ by Hypnodrone Ensemble | New Album, ‘The Problem Is In The Sender – Do Not Tamper With The Receiver’

Catch ‘Desdemona,’ an exclusive track premiere from Hypnodrone Ensemble’s upcoming album ‘The Problem Is In The Sender – Do Not Tamper With The Receiver,’ featuring material from the May 2023 Punctum Sessions. Dropping on July 5, 2024, this release will be on vinyl via Wolves & Vibrancy (DE), CD through WV Sorcerer (FR), and cassette by Katuktu Collective (US) and Cruel Nature (UK).

Aidan Baker and Eric Quach, along with their sonic cohorts, embarked on a mind-bending journey through atmospheric space-rock and krautrock-infused beats, birthing the Hypnodrone Ensemble, whose latest album, ‘The Problem Is in the Sender – Do Not Tamper with the Receiver’, channels the raw energy of their May 2023 Punctum sessions

Canadian experimental guitarists Aidan Baker (known for Nadja, Caudal, and Tavare) and Eric Quach (from Thisquietarmy) initially came together to form Hypnodrone Ensemble in Berlin, Germany back in 2014. Their mission? To delve into the realms where atmospheric space-rock and shoegaze intersect with motorik, krautrock-esque, driving beats, delivering performances that immerse, transport, and psychedelicize. The original core comprised Baker, Quach, and drummers Felipe Salazar (also from Caudal), Jérémie Mortier, and David Dunnett. Over the years, the lineup has seen its fair share of changes. Presently, alongside stalwarts Baker and Quach, you’ll find Angela Martinez Muñoz (of nunofyrbeeswax and Tavare), Fiona McKenzie (from Halma), and Sara Neidorf (associated with Mellowdeath and Aptera).

This ensemble, joined by bassist Gareth Sweeney (also from Caudal) and guest vocalist Lane Shi Otayonii (of otay:onii, Elizabeth Colour Wheel), embarked on a European tour in the spring of 2023. Their journey included a break on May 1st for a recording session arranged by Heartnoize at Punctum in Prague, CZ.
