‘Oxytocin Drunk’ by Applied Communications | ‘Applied Communications Has A Midlife Crisis’

Exclusive track premiere of ‘Oxytocin Drunk’ by Applied Communications, taken from the upcoming EP, ‘Applied Communications Has A Midlife Crisis,’ out April 26th, 2024.

Applied Communications’ EP, ‘Midlife Crisis,’ marks a triumphant return after 17 years of hiatus. Led by Max Wood, also known as Applied Communications, this collection of five alt-pop tracks delves into Max’s journey through depression, gender dysphoria, existential turmoil, and self-acceptance. Departing from the polarizing style of previous records like ‘Uhhh Sort Of,’ this EP is more accessible and rhythmically driven while retaining its deeply personal and distinctive essence.

Max says that ‘Oxytocin Drunk’ is “the first song I finished when I decided to make music again. It’s about the joy of being disappointed; realizing that means that you are capable of caring really deeply about the people, ideas, and experiences in your life. I tried to keep it relatively straightforward and poppy, though the yowling off-key chorus vocals and abrupt shifts will probably lose some folks.”

The EP’s production was meticulously handled by Scoobert Doobert (known for his work with CHAI and Victor Marc) for mixing and Riley Knapp (credited with Rosie Tucker and Lou Roy) for mastering, resulting in a sound that surpasses previous Applied Communications endeavors.
