‘Old Mistakes’ by The Velvicks
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Old Mistakes’ by Brazilian rockers The Velvicks.
‘Old Mistakes’ is a song dedicated to a brilliant young girl who was raised by a broken/violent family unit whose parents got divorced at a young age. All her defense mechanisms and triggers built throughout her developing years were a necessary evil she now believes it is time to deal with. Although her psyche has evolved, she still has difficulties in identifying and avoiding destructive patterns which echoes negatively on everyone around her, including on her new family.
Vick Nader from The Velvicks shares: “This is a song about trauma, vicious cycles and the toll it takes in one’s mental health”.
“‘Old Mistakes’ is actually about a friend whose relationship with her parents was very toxic and hostile. I saw a genuinely amazing human being be stripped of her securities and support from her family due to improper approach in dealing with mental health. I understood and saw with my own eyes how fundamental friends are when sh*t hits the fan. Melodically, this song was inspired by a song by The National which also is the same loop of a certain number of chords, and what defines the chorus from the verse and other parts of the song are the lyrics and the escalating intensity from piano to fortissimo. I had these lyrics in a drawer for several years now and I’m glad it has finally found its way to light. And so did my friend!”.
Featuring gritty guitar solos, high energy grungey drums, and frontman Vick Nader’s powerhouse stadium anthem-ready vocals, ‘Old Mistakes’ showcases the rock n roll grit and storytelling flair that makes The Velvicks so unique. With influences ranging from Queens of The Stone Age, and Foo Fighters to The Black Keys and Radiohead, the band delivers heart-pounding Rock that is at once familiar and distinctive. The sounds of the band members’ individual experiences combine with a shared passion for authentic rock and roll. “Songs are making sense; the band is delivering badass live performances and people are responding to it”, says Vick Nader.
