‘Esoteric Hex’ by The Mary Veils | New Album, ‘Esoteric Hex’
Exclusive track premiere of ‘Esoteric Hex’ by The Mary Veils, the third single and title track off their forthcoming LP, ‘Esoteric Hex’, due March 25 via PNKSLM Recordings.
Speaking on the track, frontman Brian Von Uff wrote:
“The band and I moved to my old studio space in these historic mills from the 1600’s that the Swedes built. The idea for the album and name came to me while in this space. When I was younger my friend lived on Mill Street and there was an older woman who would collect animal bones and claimed to be a witch. She told us she put a hex on us for climbing in her tree. Since our music isn’t for everyone and we are forever cursed…or not, we named the song and album esoteric hex. This song came together to us on Mill Street in this space. It has a very hypnotic spell like vibe and it fit perfect.”
The Mary Veils have also joined this year’s Official SXSW Lineup.

The album was tracked swiftly and entirely live, within a few months of the new lineup coming together, over a number of weekends at Jessie Gimbel’s basement studio in Upper Darby, PA. Once ‘Esoteric Hex’ had been mixed by Cory Hanson and Jeff Zeigler — who between them have worked with the likes of The War on Drugs, Ty Segall and Kurt Vile — The Mary Veils were ready to unleash this mission statement of a record upon the world, only for fate to intervene. “We’ve been sitting on the album since the start of the pandemic,” says Von Uff.
