‘A Mouthful’ by Heavy Whipped Cream

After video premiere of ‘Two Is The Deal’ by psychedelic folk rock band Heavy Whipped Cream, we present you a full stream of EP ‘A Mouthful’.

Their brand new psychedelic folk rock EP ‘A Mouthful’ will be finally out on April 24. This mini-album was recorded at IJsvogel Studios, Utrecht, over the course of last year and contains a psychedelic brew of melodic, harmony-rich sixties pop and raucous rock ‘n’ soul jams.

To supplement the core sound of the band, ‘A Mouthful’ stars a varied range of guest musicians, ranging from a gospel-tinged vocal group to a freaky percussionist.

‘A Mouthful’, Heavy Whipped Cream’s first official Extended Play, is a psychedelic brew of melodic, harmony-rich sixties pop and raucous rock ‘n’ soul jams. The psychedelic folk rock band from Utrecht, the Netherlands, formed in 2017 and subsequently developed an earthy sound of breezy folky harmonies that recall The Byrds and CSNY as well as spirited, fiery psychedelic rock ‘n’ soul.

‘A Mouthful’ contains five songs that together form a kaleidoscopic insight into the sound of Heavy Whipped Cream.

Heavy Whipped Cream’s mini-album contains a colorful range of different sounds. Album opener “Two Is The Deal”, for example, is an upbeat sixties song that blends intricate harmonies with fuzzy, pulsating riffs.

Aside from the band itself, the EP features a number of guest musicians. Several percussionists were taken on board, as well as gospel-tinged vocal group The Jamm Singers, who feature prominently on the bluesy track “January Brings The Rain”.

“Which Is Which” twists, distorts and shifts shape, passing Velvet Underground-style grooves, hazy psychedelic blues and a funky percussion jam.

Mid-tempo ballad “Blue Machinery” blends layers of beatlesque harmonies and acoustic guitars.

Album closer “The Ballad Of Sandy Jones” hints at a dirty, Crazy Horse-like live jam.

The mini-album was recorded at the newly built IJsvogel studios – and Heavy Whipped Cream’s introduction to the magical world of the recording studio came with an ambitious, maximalist approach.

“We were finally able to record layer after layer after layer. We opted for a rich palette of dreamy sixties-production, laid-back seventies studio rock and some intense psych freakouts.”

Heavy Whipped Cream’s ‘A Mouthful’ is out via all channels on April 24. Check out their website for more news and upcoming tour dates in the post-corona era.
