Jaberdarwin Share ‘The Soft Collapse’ From Upcoming Debut Album

Jaberdarwin have shared ‘The Soft Collapse’, the title track from their debut album, out November 6 through Subsound Records.

Jaberdarwin is a new name, although the four musicians involved are certainly not newcomers. The band brings together Eraldo Bernocchi on guitar, Colin Edwin on bass, Tomas Järmyr on drums and Gareth Davis on bass clarinet. Bernocchi has worked with Sigillum S, Obake and Metallic Taste of Blood, among many other projects, while Edwin is known from Porcupine Tree and more recently O.R.k. and Voyage 35. Järmyr plays with Motorpsycho and was previously in Zu, and Davis has worked with everyone from Merzbow and Oiseaux-Tempête to contemporary composers Bernhard Lang and Peter Ablinger.

‘The Soft Collapse’ is nine minutes long and takes its time. The opening is fairly sparse, with guitar and bass clarinet given a lot of room. The piece gradually becomes heavier, moving through a krautrock section before breaking into something much louder and rougher. There are some bluesy guitar passages in there as well.

It’s a good first introduction to the band because it is difficult to connect it too closely with any one of the members’ previous work. There are familiar elements, of course, but the combination is something else. The album was recorded at One Louder Studios by Alan Emptage. Eraldo Bernocchi and Colin Edwin produced and mixed it, with Bernocchi also handling the mastering.

‘The Soft Collapse’ contains six tracks and will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally. Vinyl editions include standard black and a limited metallic silver and gold pressing.
