Gooseberry Share New Single and Video ‘Fault Lines’ Ahead of ‘Simple Sucker’
Brooklyn trio Gooseberry have shared a new single and accompanying video for ‘Fault Lines’, taken from their forthcoming second album, ‘Simple Sucker’, due September 25, 2026.
The band have also announced a fall European tour with shows across the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. ‘Fault Lines’ arrives on July 17 and follows the first album single, ‘Durak’.
‘Fault Lines’ brings Gooseberry into some of the heaviest territory they have explored so far. Its thick guitar sound and tense, forceful rhythm draw heavily from 1990s alternative rock, with Soundgarden serving as a particularly important reference point.
At its centre, however, is a song about leaving home and discovering that distance can make familiar places appear increasingly unreachable. Frontman Asa Daniels describes watching the New York music scene continue without him, with social media providing a constant view of shows, venues and friends that he can no longer experience in person.
“You know that meme where Squidward watches from his window as SpongeBob and Patrick have all kinds of fun? That’s essentially what this song is about,” Daniels explains.
“It’s about picking up your life and leaving a place you’ve known forever, say, New York City, and relocating 300-plus miles away to a city that couldn’t feel more different.
“From afar, all you can do is rot away watching on social media as other bands play your favourite venues back home, shows you can’t be at. In many ways, this song is about homesickness, but also about how isolation can completely distort your perspective.
“Musically, it’s one of the heaviest songs in the Gooseberry catalogue, and it owes a great debt to Soundgarden.”
The trio worked with producer Colin Bryson to create a more focused sonic environment for the album. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Veruca Salt and The Jesus Lizard were among the reference points, alongside more recent bands such as Wunderhorse and Fontaines D.C.
