Shannon Lay Shares New Single And Video ‘Horizons’ From ‘Past The Veil’

Shannon Lay has shared ‘Horizons’, the latest single from her forthcoming album ‘Past The Veil’, out July 28 via All The Best.

The track follows the album’s title song, ‘Past The Veil’, and arrives with a new video directed by Bailey Salwey. It also gives another clear sign of where Lay is heading on this record, moving beyond the sparse, fingerpicked folk sound she is so often associated with and into something fuller, more open and more communal.

Speaking about the song, Lay says:

“‘Horizons’ is a reminder to be authentic. We all have a unique perspective and that’s what makes this whole experience so interesting. I love art for that reason; it is someone’s view of the world on display. We need to be as much as we want to be and keep our head up high and we traverse uncertainty. Every step forward makes a difference.”

The album began after Lay started working with Los Angeles engineer and producer Rob Shelton of Altamira Sound in Alhambra. Their first collaboration, ‘Mirrors’, helped point the way towards a broader sound, with drum machines, string arrangements, pedal steel and fuller band textures all finding their way into the new material.

‘Past The Veil’ also marks the first release on Lay’s new artist-run label, All The Best. After parting ways with her previous label, she used the change as a chance to trust her own instincts and the people around her. The result is still recognisably Shannon Lay, gentle, thoughtful and full of care, but with a bit more lift in the room.
