Yawning Balch Stream New Album ‘Volume Four’
Yawning Balch return with ‘Volume Four’, the latest album from the California desert rock project featuring Bob Balch of Fu Manchu alongside Yawning Man members Gary Arce, Mario Lalli and Bill Stinson.
The album was recorded during a five-hour jam session in Joshua Tree, California on April 20, 2024. No overdubs were needed. The same session also produced ‘Volume Three’, with ‘Volume Four’ focusing on the longer jams from that day.
The record features two tracks, ‘Pyramid of Djoser’ and ‘Water Ritual’. It’s loose, heavy and hypnotic, built around slow movement, open space and the natural chemistry between the players. Bob Balch has said the mix carries a feel close to ’70s dub reggae, especially on parts of ‘Water Ritual’.
‘Volume Four’ was recorded at Gatos Trail, engineered and mixed by Dan Joeright, and mastered by Kent Stump at Crystal Clear Sound. Artwork is by John McGill, with logo work by Pia Isaksen.
‘Volume Four’ is out May 29, 2026 via Heavy Psych Sounds. Album pre-order is available here.
